IAG Launches Calendar-Based Avios Reward Flight Search
Travelers frustrated with the one-day search limitations for Avios redemptions on British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus now have a new tool at their disposal. International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of these airlines plus Vueling and Level, has introduced a calendar-based reward flight search on the Avios website.
New Feature Offers Month-Long Availability View
The updated search allows users to view an entire month of award availability in a single screen, covering flights operated by British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus, accessible through British Airways Club, Iberia Club, and Aer Lingus AerClub programs. Importantly, using the tool is completely free, requiring only a registered Avios loyalty account.
How the Calendar Search Works
To utilize the new feature, users should navigate to the ‘Find Reward Flights’ tool on the Avios website. Input the departure and arrival airports, the number of travelers, the desired month, and whether a one-way or round-trip flight is needed. Users can then filter by cabin type, such as lie-flat business class. A half-circle indicates limited availability, while a full circle signifies good availability. Hovering over a date reveals the number of seats, cabin types, and the corresponding Avios price.
Key Considerations and Limitations
American Express cardholders with Companion Vouchers for British Airways cards may receive additional award seats, though similar offers exist through Chase’s U.S. Avios credit cards. However, these ticket holders won’t receive any extra seats beyond regular Avios members. The search currently only displays nonstop flights, with connecting itineraries not yet included. Furthermore, the tool doesn’t show total taxes and carrier-imposed surcharges, which can vary significantly between the airlines. Finally, booking must be completed through the operating airline’s website – British Airways for British Airways flights, Iberia for Iberia flights, and Aer Lingus for Aer Lingus flights – even if you hold an account with a different program.
