Hyatt's award chart overhaul: dates and details revealed

Hyatt World of Hyatt loyalty program members finally have a definitive timeline for the sweeping changes to the hotel chain's award chart. As of May 20 at 9 a.m. EDT, the new system will take effect, ushering in five pricing tiers for each of the current eight categories.

Property realignments ahead

A total of 136 Hyatt hotels and resorts will experience category changes on May 20, with 112 properties moving up and 24 shifting down the ladder. However, more than 90% of Hyatt properties will remain in their current categories, according to Hyatt.

For those who have already booked award stays or points and cash reservations before May 20, the bookings will price according to the current award chart, regardless of the actual stay dates.

Conversely, if a member has an existing award stay or points and cash booking at a property that drops to a lower category, they will receive a one-time refund for the points difference, starting May 20.

In preparation for the changes, travelers are advised to finalize any bookings at properties slated for category increases before May 20 at 9 a.m. EDT, as future reservations will be priced under the new system.
