El salvador booms as record 473,000 tourists arrive in april

El Salvador welcomed a record-breaking 473,000 international visitors in April, a 36% surge from the same month last year. This explosive growth makes it the strongest April on record for foreign tourism, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Neighboring nations drive surge

Guatemala topped the list with 748,000 visitors, a 69% increase. The United States came in second with 440,000 arrivals, up 8%, while Honduras saw a 30% rise to 319,000 visitors.

These figures suggest Central Americans are increasingly choosing El Salvador as a Travel destination, while American tourists continue to show lasting interest despite the distance.

Tourism fuels economic recovery

With visitor numbers reaching 1.7 million from January to April, a one-third increase from early 2025, tourism now plays a central role in El Salvador's economic recovery. Strong consumer spending and effective marketing efforts have boosted the sector.

The country's tourism earnings skyrocketed to $871 million in the first three months of the year, a nearly 20% increase from the same period in 2025. This surpasses pre-pandemic levels and positions El Salvador for a strong finish to the year.

With an estimated 4.2 million overseas travelers expected by year-end, officials predict annual tourism income will exceed $3.6 billion. This momentum is likely to continue, strengthening El Salvador's regional standing and cementing its position as a key player in Central American tourism.
