Forget cramped hallways and limited space – travelers will soon be navigating a sprawling, three-times-larger concourse boasting a host of amenities and a striking architectural design.
A solution to decades-old constraints
For over two years, passengers have patiently navigated construction walls and ‘Upgrades in Progress’ signs. But the headaches are about to end. The painstaking work, slated for completion in late May or early June, will finally dismantle the design limitations of the existing concourse – effectively solving a long-standing footprint constraint problem. The result? A completely reimagined space, adding over 226,000 square feet and establishing a new benchmark for airport design.

This isn’t just about more room; it’s about a significantly elevated experience. The expansion introduces a plethora of new dining options – including an outpost of the internationally renowned Chili’s – alongside retail outlets and a dedicated art space. A rooftop solar photovoltaic array will contribute nearly 15% of the building’s energy needs, showcasing SEA’s commitment to sustainable design. But the headline feature is undoubtedly the two-story Alaska Airlines lounge, a 40,000-square-foot haven for premium travelers.
A hub of activity and style
The lounge, designed by The Miller Hull Partnership and Woods Bagot, will offer breathtaking views of the Olympic Mountains and the airfield, accessible from expansive windows. A central ‘Tree at C’ sculpture – a striking tree-shaped installation – will serve as a focal point. Beyond the lounge, travelers will discover a range of new restaurants, including Great State Burger and Nanny’s BBQ, alongside familiar local favorites like Olympia Coffee and Seattle Macaron Co. The project also incorporates an Interfaith prayer and meditation room, pet relief area, and a live music stage, solidifying SEA’s reputation as a truly modern and welcoming airport.

With Seattle gearing up to host matches during the FIFA World Cup, the Concourse C expansion arrives at a pivotal moment. The airport has undertaken a series of recent improvements, including a new Checkpoint 1, the SEA Gateway, and expanded Checkpoint 6, to accommodate the anticipated influx of fans. Accessibility is key, with a visitor pass program allowing non-ticketed passengers to explore the expanded concourse and enjoy the many amenities on offer.
A lasting legacy
The creative team, led by Turner Construction, has crafted a sophisticated and functional space, incorporating artwork by nine artists, including blown glass bears by Alaska Native artist Crystal Worl. This project represents a substantial investment in Seattle’s travel infrastructure—a move to elevate the passenger experience and solidify SEA’s position as a leading international gateway.
